The ultra compact StarSOM-8MPlus family (SLS84) comprises ultra-compact (30 x 30 mm) System-on-Modules based on the NXP i.MX 8M Plus application processor. The processor features a heterogeneous architecture combining four Arm Cortex-A53 application cores with an Arm Cortex-M7 real-time core. It also integrates an advanced Neural Processing Unit delivering up to 2.3 TOPS, a Vivante GC7000UL 3D Graphics Processing Unit compatible with OpenGL ES 3.1, and a Video Processing Unit supporting H.264 and H.265 encoding and decoding at up to 1080p60.

The quad-core Cortex-A53 cluster, combined with the Cortex-M7 core, provides the flexibility required to run Linux or Android applications alongside real-time workloads. This architecture makes the module particularly suitable for advanced human-machine interfaces and applications requiring deterministic real-time processing.

The ultra compact StarSOM-8MPlus (SLS84) is a highly integrated, general-purpose System-on-Module optimized for machine learning, artificial intelligence, neural-network processing and advanced multimedia applications. The module offers high computing performance while maintaining a compact form factor.

The ultra compact StarSOM-8MPlus is available with various memory configurations, including a flexible range of LPDDR4 and eMMC capacities. It also supports an external SD memory card interface.

The StarSOM-8MPlus supports a wide range of interfaces, including:

  • two high-speed USB 2.0/3.0 interfaces;
  • two 1 Gb/s Ethernet MAC interfaces;
  • HDMI with eARC support, two LVDS interfaces and a MIPI-DSI interface;
  • Full HD display support with 3D graphics acceleration and hardware video encoding and decoding;
  • a PCI Express 3.0 interface;
  • two CAN FD interfaces.

The module is suitable for industrial-grade embedded applications requiring high processing performance, advanced graphics, multimedia capabilities, artificial-intelligence acceleration and real-time operation.

For evaluation and prototyping, we recommend using the dedicated StarCB-8MPlus-ADV carrier board.
